How long have you been doing CrossFit? 

I started CrossFit in 2015.

What was your first CrossFit workout and how did you do? 

I’m not sure I remember my first wod but I remember struggling. 3,2,1 go and I was frantic. I think the movement was overhead squats and I thought I’d never get them.

What’s your athletic background? Did you play any sports growing up?

I was always into sports. Baseball, Wrestling, Soccer were the main ones I played consistently.

What inspires you as a coach – why do you do it? 

I’ve had a lot of good coaches and some bad ones too throughout my life. For me I like seeing people get better and it’s really great to see someone get that “ah ha” moment when their work pays off and they connect on a movement or beat a previous personal record.

What are your favorite and least favorite CrossFit movements?

I love almost every movement with a barbell especially coupled with double unders in a wod. It took me over a year to get double unders and now I like them. I’d say if I had to pick a movement that I’m not efficient at it’s gotta be overhead squats.

What is one piece of advice you would offer to someone new to CrossFit?

I’d say that Crossfit isn’t something you ever master. There will always be a combination of movements to challenge you and test your fitness. There are plenty of things that seem overwhelming when you first start and you think you’ll never get it but you eventually will and it’s a great feeling. You just have to listen to your body and keep working on yourself.

What is your favorite thing about CrossFit (community, challenging workouts, friends, etc?)

The best part about this Crossfit community is we all help each other get better. The encouragement and push we give each other makes it the best part of my day.
