How long have you been doing CrossFit?
What was your first CrossFit workout and how did you do?
My first CrossFit workout was at the first GO Fest and it was a partner workout. We had to do a bunch of body weight movements in a relay style and ended with a partner carry. I couldn’t stop laughing during the partner carry and remember how fun it was and loved the challenge.
What’s your athletic background? Did you play any sports growing up?
I played softball growing up and in college
What inspires you as a coach – why do you do it?
I love watching people surprise themselves and gain confidence in what they can do with their bodies. It’s wonderful to see someone feel good about themselves and their abilities, and not just how they might look.
What are your favorite and least favorite CrossFit movements?
Favorite movements: wallballs, snatching
Least favorite: rope climbs
What is one piece of advice you would offer to someone new to CrossFit?
Not to be too hard on themselves. It’s easy to look around and see people crushing a workout and instantly compare yourself to them. It’s hard to remember that EVERYONE started in the exact same place you are. Use them to motivate you and remember improving your fitness is a marathon, not a sprint.
What is your favorite thing about CrossFit (community, challenging workouts, friends, etc.)?
I think my favorite thing about CrossFit is that is teaches and shows you what you can DO with your body not what it necessarily looks like. The focus is on what you can accomplish, and the variety of things you can accomplish during a workout always amazes me. Looking at a workout and thinking there is no way you can do it and then you surprise yourself each time when you finish is the best. I also love the community it offers and the friends and relationships that develop from it. It hits all the areas of health, not just fitness and that’s a pretty special thing.
