How long have you been doing CrossFit?

Started back in May 2013

What was your first CrossFit workout and how did you do?

Med ball cleans and sit ups – If I had to describe the experience in one word, I’d say it was HUMBLING. I thought I was in OK shape but I was so wrong!

What’s your athletic background? Did you play any sports growing up?

I have always been active but only ran track in school. Later as an adult I took up softball & soccer. I played on the female United States Marine team when my husband was stationed in Iwakuni and was able to travel to other parts of Japan and Korea for softball. Back in the states I played both coed and womens recreational soccer in California & Pennsylvania

What inspires you as a coach – why do you do it?

People… ordinary people stepping out of their comfort zone, trying new things and seeing fitness growth. That inspires me! I am lucky enough to say that my passion is now my profession and coaching has given me an insatiable drive to become a better athlete and trainer. I love proving people wrong and hearing those “I could never do that” comments. Most can, they just need someone to believe in them more than they believe in themselves. They try, they fail, they try again, they succeed. That success is a coach’s greatest reward!

What are your favorite and least favorite CrossFit movements?

I love cleans! Heavy ones! And handstand push ups. I don’t really have a least favorite but I guess I could say long distance rowing is tough for me.

What is one piece of advice you would offer to someone new to CrossFit?

I always tell our newbies….no one walks through the door of any CrossFit for the first time able to do everything, NO ONE! We all start somewhere. We have all struggled with a simple air squat or a push up at one time. CrossFit can work for you regardless of your fitness level when you start. Just be patient and have fun with it.

What is your favorite thing about CrossFit ?

Greg Glassman said “The magic is in the movement, the art is in the programming, the science is in the explanation, and the fun is in the community.” This could not be more true! The community is what will keep you coming back. Friends that hold you accountable, cheer for you to finish a workout when you think you can’t and talk smack with you when it’s all over. The community will become your extended family!
